Amar Gupta
ABout the Artist
Amar Gupta is a large format photographer from Beaumont, Texas. Using traditional analog methods, Gupta produces primarily greyscale documentary and abstract images. He began taking photographs in high school to document his skateboarding escapades. Abstract connections are what he seeks in his photography: A collection of colors, lines, shapes and forms that tell a story which can not be conveyed by words.
Gupta's most recent contemporary abstract series questions the limits of the photographic medium by distorting images through precise color gradient manipulation. This unique process creates an image that relates more closely to first and second generation abstract expressionists. Gupta’s interest in extreme photographic manipulation was born out of the belief that creation within photography is limitless. This notion stands in stark contrast to the expected function of a camera, which is to truthfully document reality. The works within Untitled II overcome these boundaries of normalcy, and, within it, one will discover a seamless connection between the essential mediums of painting and photography, and unearth impressions provoked by the prevalence of creativity over media constraint.
BrianNa Vance
ABout the Artist
Raised in Austin, Texas, Brianna Vance is a self-taught resin artist that has developed techniques that capture the clarity and three-dimensional qualities of her colors. Many of her paintings evoke a sense of warmth and serenity while others are mystifying and immersive. Art is her main form of escapism, allowing her creativity to expand and flourish. This medium requires equal measures of control and letting go. The work starts with a plan, but also provides surprising results when the materials bond together.
“My contemporary resin paintings are created using various unorthodox techniques—a process that combines inks, acrylics, and pigments with epoxy resin. Precise layering and manipulation produce glassy, unique abstract pieces. Spontaneity and emotion are vital in my process. By living in the moment and using only raw gravity, endurance, and self-restraint, my creative method can be viewed as both control and freedom. Colors run together or side by side as they wish. The natural flow and fluidity of the resin reflects a common theme of my personal journey—constantly wandering in and out of spaces it seeks to belong.”
