Opening Reception: Séjour en Couleur

  • Contracommon 12912 Hill Country Boulevard #F-140 Bee Cave, TX, 78738 (map)

Contracommon is proud to present Séjour en Couleur, an exhibition of work by Molly Knobloch and Amanda Witucki. The exhibition will run from June 14th through July 16th, with an opening
reception on Saturday, June 19th from 6 - 9pm.

Molly Knobloch and Amanda Witucki are two artists using different mediums to facilitate experiences that feel similar. Both artists use dynamic color relationships to create intricate,
large scale works. Knobloch's paintings and Witucki's paper sculptures build environments through repetition of smaller elements that fuse into a complete vision. Each has created their
own specific vocabulary, following their own rules for arranging details within their works. Knobloch uses a set of gestural marks to build spaces, while Witucki favors repeating patterns of interlocking paper shapes that form larger structures.

Molly Knobloch grew up in Boston, MA, surrounded by the arts in various forms and somehow still entered college thinking she was a business major. Then she took her first painting class. She’s been painting ever since, and has taken her practice from New Orleans to France and finally to sunny Austin. Molly uses mark making and line work to create a space with dimension and depth that the viewer can enter, enjoy, and rest within.

Amanda Witucki is a self-taught artist living in Austin who has been creating consistent bodies of work for the past two years. Her focus is paper sculpture and origami, playing heavily on color, texture, and repetition. You can currently find her work at Art for the People Gallery and ArtUs Co. She has participated in several group shows, most recently Pink the Pop Up and the East Austin Studio Tour. This the first major showcase of her work.

Séjour en Couleur will be on view at the Contracommon Gallery from June 14th – July 16th. The gallery is open to the public on weekends from 12pm – 6pm, and weekdays by appointment. The
opening reception will be held on
Saturday, June 19th from 6 – 9pm, and is free and open to the public. For more information, or to make appointments or donations, please email contact@contracommon.org
