Contracommon is proud to present Within Reach, a group exhibition featuring works by current members of the nonprofit, as part of Austin Studio Tour. Big Medium, the organization that produces the Austin Studio Tour each year, will be hosting this exhibition in their new complex at 4201 S Congress Ave Suite 313 Stop #205 on the AST map). The show will be on view for all three weekends of the Austin Studio Tour from November 4th through 19th, 2023. In addition, Contracommon will host a party and open studios event on Friday, November 3rd from 6 – 9pm at their headquarters in Bee Cave to kick off all their programming for the Austin Studio Tour. This party and the Austin Studio Tour events are all free and open to the public.
In this temporary group exhibition, Within Reach, Contracommon artists draw upon ideas of desire, belonging, and memory as unifying themes; exploring what it means to reach out for something, through many interpretations and in many different mediums. Participating artists include: Forrest Aderholt, Kelsey Baker, Mar Beltran, Aria Brownell, Deke Cameron, Holly Cerna, Darryl Demps Jr., Molly Knobloch, Sadé Lawson, Iris Rylander, Rachel Spits and Chris Tobar.
Contracommon is excited to host two additional events this month in conjunction with Austin Studio Tour: a pop-up sculpture garden I’ve Had It (Stop #298); and an unofficial exhibition falling just outside the AST borders at their gallery space in Bee Cave– RE/FLEX V, the latest in a series of group exhibitions featuring current works by emerging artists in Central Texas.
Within Reach will be on view at Stop #205 on the Austin Studio Tour map (4201 S Congress Ave) from November 4th through November 19th, 2023. The gallery is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6pm.
The kickoff party and open studios event, sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Big Country Organic Brewing Co, will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 6-9pm, and is free and open to the public.
