$35 Workshop with Supplies
In this 2-hour, beginner-friendly class we will be learning about the supplies and techniques used for painting in watercolors! Contrary to a typical “paint and sip” style class, this lesson will be focused on individual experimentation rather than a prescriptive “how to make this picture”. During the first half of class time the instructor, guest artist Roxolana Krywonos, will introduce the class to the different materials and why some will suit your artistic needs better then others. We will also cover some brush techniques and common troubleshoot spots.
In the second hour, attendees are encouraged to play with the different papers and get a feel for how they change the painting experience. A variety of paper types will be available for your use in a postcard size so that you can experience different thicknesses and textures. After the initial introduction, free-spirit students are welcome to freestyle and paint what they want while asking questions when they get stuck. Students who need more structure will be provided step by step exercises to practice.
The teacher in this class is Roxolana Krywonos, she is a local Austin artist who graduated from UT’s fine arts program in 2020. As a teacher she is interested in making information about art techniques accessible and transparent, as there are quite enough gate-keepers in this world. She enjoys painting in many different mediums but her favorite subject is portraiture. She describes her work as “a love letter to my subject”.
