Contracommon is proud to present two multimedia exhibitions by local artists: Loops by Alie Jackson and Cluster Duck by Alex Coronel. These artists use new media in combination with more traditional works to build chaotic spaces filled with bright colors and references to contemporary culture. Both are responding to, and playing within, the ever shifting landscape of the digital world. The concurrent exhibitions will open with a reception on Saturday, September 24th from 7 – 10pm, and will be on view in the gallery from September 19th through October 24th, 2022.
Alie Jackson is a multimedia artist born and raised in Austin, TX. Jackson is also an award winning Animation Director, Educator, and Creative Director currently working for Austin FC. Loops is an exploration of media through collage and stop motion animation. Jackson’s work examines how the digital world and social media shapes the perception and behavior of ourselves, others, and objects around us. She tells these stories through various physical and digital mediums like textiles, augmented reality, painting, and animation.
Alex Coronel is an American contemporary artist who works primarily in painting and installation, but is also active in other media. In recent years he’s exhibited heavily across Texas and New Mexico. Coronel has been working as a craftsman/woodworker for Trophyology in Austin. This type work has led to a resurgence of sculpture in his practice, adding to his multidisciplinary portfolio. Playfulness is crucial when it comes to his work. It has aided his evolution of strictly being an abstract painter into becoming a multimedia artist. You can catch his painting ‘\ ////‘ hanging in Austin City Hall until 2024.
Loops and Cluster Duck will be on view concurrently at the Contracommon Gallery from September 19th – October 24th, 2022.
